New Faces in Seattle

Many Seahawks fans found themselves a bit stunned and confused by the trading away of starting quarterback, Geno Smith for a third-round pick. Despite missing the playoffs, the Seahawks had a solid 10-7 record, behind a record setting quarterback in Smith. Smith broke the Seahawks' single season franchise record for passing yards (4,320), passes completed (407), and percent completed (70.4).

So, I'm sure many fans were left questioning what the team planned to do next. Within a week, however, fan's questions were answered with the signing of former Vikings pro bowl quarterback, Sam Darnold. Though many are still not convinced of Darnold's true abilities, his numbers say otherwise. Darnold is joining Seattle after coming off his best season. He led the Vikings to a 14-3 season and put up impressive numbers. According to the Seahawks organization, the team was drawn to his "leadership, situational awareness, and ability to make explosive plays." Darnold told the press that he believes they "have an opportunity to do something special."

The Seahawks also made moves in their wide receiver position, trading away star receiver, DK Metcalf to the Steelers for a second-round pick. Nine days later, they signed Cooper Kupp. Though it is not expected that Kupp will completely fill the shoes of Metcalf, Kupp will certainly add depth to the receiver core. The former Super Bowl MVP had a very respectable season with the Rams last year, with 67 receptions, 710 yards, and 6 touchdowns.

Though it hasn't been too long since their last playoff win, the Seahawks are making moves to once again become a playoff bound team. The reactions to these moves have been split. The service brought to the team by Smith and Metcalf have generally been much appreciated by the fanbase, though many also understand the moves and are looking forward to some changes in the organization.

The Seahawks have consistently had winning records for the past several years, having won a super bowl in 2013, and made the post season numerous times since then. Because of this, it may be hard to determine if the Seahawks are in rebuild mode, or if these new acquisitions could potentially make them a playoff team in the near future. Regardless, this season will be important for both Darnold and Kupp's career, as it will give them an opportunity to show off what they can truly do for a team. Seattle fans are in a spot of uncertainty but also hope and opportunity.

The 12th Man

Let's take a few minutes and talk about that fan base in Seattle. The passion, support, and energy that Seattle fans bring to each home game is what football is all about. "The 12s" they call themselves, and they really do live up to that name. It is widely known around the league that playing in Seattle is no joke. It's as if there's a "12th man" on the football field at all times. The crowd is absolutely electric in Seattle.  The noise volume in Seattle even led to a rule change in the NFL. In the 80's, teams were so frustrated, and it was becoming so difficult to play, that the NFL actually implemented a rule in 1989 allowing the referees to penalize the defense if their crowd was too loud for the offense to function. Think about how loud the stadium had to have been for the NFL to IMPLEMENT a rule against it. That's insane. The rule has since been discarded, but it stood for almost 20 years.  In fact, the Seattle crowd is so significant to t...
